FAQs
Who will perform the scan?
Your ultrasound scan will only be performed by a qualified and experienced ultrasound practitioner.
This will either be an Ultrasonographer, Fetal Medicine Consultant, or Radiology Consultant.
What is Ultrasound?
Ultrasound scans use high frequency sound waves which pass through the body and are reflected back to the ultrasound probe. The ultrasound machine creates an image of the organ that has reflected the sound waves and these images are interpreted by the practitioner.
Ultrasound scanning does not use ionising radiation as with x-rays.
Do I Need Any Special Preparation?
Some scans do require that you fill your bladder by drinking 2-3 cups of water 1 hour prior to your scan or to stop eating and drinking 5 hours prior to your scan.
Your preparation will be explained to you at the time of booking and on your appointment confirmation letter.
Details can also be found on the Scan Ultra website under each examination.
How Do I Get The Results?
The Ultrasound Practitioner will make a report on your examination which will then be sent to your referring doctor who will evaluate the results along with any other investigation or blood test result.
Do I Need A Doctors Referral Letter?
You do not need a doctors referral letter for any of our pregnancy scans or for our aortic screening test. We will take your doctors details at the time of your scan and will for some scans issue them with a report.
You will need a referral from your doctor for all of our general medical scans.
