This is a detailed ultrasound examination of the abdomen which will include your liver, gall bladder, bile ducts, pancreas, spleen and kidneys, aorta and pelvic area as shown below:

What does the scan involve?


The scan is performed transabdominally (on the top of your tummy) with a full bladder.
You will be asked to stop eating 5 hours prior to your scan appointment, but will be asked to drink 2 to 3 cups of water an hour before your scan.
Your pelvis will be scaned first and you will then be asked to empty your bladder in order that your are comfortable for the upper abdominal scan.

A signed report of our ultrasound findings will be sent to your referring doctor.
As your doctor will have full details of other investigations and blood results we feel they will be best placed to discuss our findings with you.
