
Upper Abdominal Scan
An abdominal scan is a scan of the liver, gallbladder, pancreas, spleen on both kidneys and the blood vessels.
It is often the first method of scanning as it does not use ionising.
Why would my Doctor refer me for an abdominal scan?
An abdominal scan may be requested because you are experiencing abdominalpain or your doctor may have some concerns regarding an examination or blood tests.
What conditions can be seen on an abdominal scan?
Gallbladder and kidney stones can be seen on an abdominal ultrasound scan.
Other conditions including cysts, some tumours and an aortic aneurysm can be seen.
Do I need to prepare for the scan?
You will need to stop eating and drinking 4 hours prior to your scan.
How do I get the results?
We will issue a report of the scan findings which will be passed to your doctor.
You will need to book an appointment with your doctor to discuss the findings.
